From the ladies who brought Sorella to Allen Street comes Stellina. While our travels through Piedmont inspired the tasty dishes available at Sorella, the other cause for our love for the region (and need to join the gym after) came from the sweets. In Torino we would walk through the royal palace intoxicated by the smell of giandujotto available in the many cafes. In between our lengthy lunches and dinners we would warm up with a bicerin and amazing biscotti. With Sorella approaching its 3rd year, the time has come to create our first offspring. Stellina means little star, and is also a term used to express admiration. Italian grandmothers would use this as an adoring term for their little ones. Stellina is the sweet little one to Sorella. It is a casual café & gelateria, offering sweet and savory items inspired by Piedmont. It is the newest member of our little LES/Chinatown family. While Sorella is dark and romantically lit with riddling rack covered storefront, Stellina is bright and open bringing a sense of youth and fun. It is the newest chapter in the story of our ode to Piedmont. Open morning till late night, Stellina offers a variety of Italian treats to a dumpling congested neighborhood. We love dumplings, but they always leave you wanting more…whether it’s an espresso, a sandwich, a scoop of gelato, or heck, a pint of gelato, Stellina will satisfy. |
the main difference between gelato and ice cream is that gelato has a lower butterfat content and slightly lower sugar content. Yay! |
